INDOOR LESSONS

From October into June, lessons are held indoors at:

This facility offers a warm program pool that is ideal for instruction, with its 5-yard-wide ramp and depths ranging from 2.5 feet to 6 feet; a 25-yard lap pool ranging from 4 feet to 9 feet in depth; locker rooms; well-appointed family changing areas; lots of natural light; and an affordable option for those accompanying the student to swim.


OUTDOOR LESSONS

From June through September, lessons are held outdoors in my private backyard pool at:

Schönwald Aquatic Center
4642 Rocky Branch Ln.
Mebane, NC 27302

The Schönwald pool, built personally by my husband and me in 2022, is an above-ground, oval pool measuring 43 feet long and 21 feet wide. It has comfortable entry steps and is 4 feet deep throughout, with an elevated platform that provides a shallow area to stand or sit in the water. The pool has a saltwater conversion system and is bonded and grounded, exceeding Orange County electrical standards for safety. Aquatic Center features include:

  • Huge, wraparound pool deck with comfortable seating in sun and shade
  • Private, outdoor, hot water shower with changing area
  • Private, outdoor, gender-neutral, low impact restroom with space for changing clothes and diapers
  • Wood-burning stove and solar cover to help heat the pool
  • Expansive patio with shade cabana and bench swing
  • Shaded water table, wading pool, and mister to help keep waiting family members cool
  • Wifi and electricity for charging devices (many parents work during their child's lessons)
  • Pool rental options for current students and alums wishing to bring their friends


Schönwald Aquatic Center is in a beautiful, natural setting surrounded by hardwood forest, with no visible neighbors. In addition to swimming, there are lots of other things to enjoy:

  • Fresh, organic, free range chicken eggs (when available) for $6/dozen


Please note: due to insufficient depth, diving is not allowed at the Schönwald pool. The water is deep enough for students up to about 4' tall to learn treading.
